To the family of Riek and Ray Schuler
My prayers and sympathy on the loss of your mother.
I first met Riek at Matamata soon after they arrived from Holland. The Verryt family lived down the road from us and both families shared many happy times together.
Margaret Slattery my sister married Rays brother Herb so there are many connections.
I remember Riek as a beautiful young woman with a dazzling smile and bright blue eyes .
I salute the Verryt family as being remarkable in their transition from war torn Holland to New Zealand so far removed from the realities of war.
We danced and laughed and loved through the 1950s but only recently have discovered the heart break of a family far flung from the land of their birth.
Your story must be told as a story of survival and success.
God bless you all and know that you have a special place in my heart.
