Our sincerest sympathies to you all. Or to y'all as we say here in Texas. We so enjoyed seeing you here, and are so glad you were able to take your dream vacation. Grant was a funny, lovely person, and we know he will be greatly missed.

Linda, you are also a truly special person, and we know he loved you so much. We hope to be able to come to NZ sometime soon and will definitely organize a visit!

So sorry for your loss. A great man who helped me be where I am today, and a good few others too I bet.
I first met Grant in 2006. It quickly became apparent that he was the go to man for everything in ELX. If anyone had a curly question it was , go and see Grant! Many times I would go down to his office for advice, help, confirmation or just a chat, some times we´d disagree but he was always willing to listen to other points of view no matter what their position. I think that´s why he was so popular with all the field staff, he saw everyone as an equal of each other.
He has certainly been missed around here since he retired and will be more so now. He used to call me his tame Pommie which was mild to some nicknames he had for people. I loved the way he called it as he saw it, and didn´t beat around the bush.
His refusal to let Cancer beat him down should be an inspiration to many others.

Grant and Linda
I´m truly grateful that I had a chance to meet up with you recently and hear about your adventures locally and overseas. Seeing how you were living your life to the fullest, as much as you could. It´s inspirational. Now I wish Grant will rest in peace in his new destination.
Linda, with Grant gone, there will most likely be a big void in your life. Under the circumstances (Covid) it is even more challenging. Please reach out. Not just now, but also in the future. Any time you need to. And may his `golden heart´ live on in yours.
Me te aroha,
Mel

"Grant was a wonderful caring person who would help anyone in need. It was so nice to work with someone who had no understanding of what being "PC" meant, I loved it. Our lives are much richer for having him around. He will be greatly missed. There isn´t another one like him."

While I wasn´t lucky enough to work with Grant at Electrix his presence has been felt by me in a lot of what we do today. My personal interactions with him were at our Safety Days which he always attended and was passionate about. Grant, as we know, held ourselves and our clients to account. Below is an extract from what he passed on to me to read to everyone at our safety day last July, which he was unable to attend.

I still believe 'Safety at Work' is super important, and everyone in this room must be in a position to return home to their Whanau safe and well each and every day.
I am passionate about watching out for our fellow worker, please watch out for each other and if you have safety issues on the job please don't hesitate to share with your Management. Go to the top if you believe you are not being listened to. "Make sure you look after each other," it would be great to go through a year without any accident. This is achievable. Please do your bit. Enjoy your Safety Day. Have a safe year.
Regards Grant

This summed up Grant´s passion for health and safety and for looking after one another. He had no problem going to the top to do what was right. Grant has been a big part of forming the Electrix whanau. Rest in Peace Grant.

Well that is the end of an era. I met first met Grant in 1983 but knew him much better from 1990. From my perspective, Grant was a loyal, hard working and dedicated person, a real character and definitely one of a kind. He had a wicked sense of humour and I am sure he made everyone who knew him laugh at some time or other. May he rest in peace.

I was the Electrix General Manager until 1995.
Grant was a top manager with just the right manner to run the NI Transmission Line business. I learned a lot from him and also had some very funny moments. It is very sad news. I do remember what a pillar of strength Linda was for him.
If there is an opportunity to say something to him from me it would be this. "He was a very good and compassionate man who made an immense contribution to Electrix. He had his own quirky style and sense of humour which worked very well in his relationships with his staff and others around him. He should be proud of his achievements."

"I'm still here " He would say.

I admired that recent greeting that Grant used when we caught up.

I'm sorry that he is "there" now but all agree than he had a good run.
Grant was a well liked, colourful figure in the transmission line industry, I will miss our random 'Catch-ups'.
Linda. I offer Yvonne and my condolences. Hope you and your family stay well in these trying times.

JOHNSON, Grant:
18.06.1948 to 24.11.2021
Loved parent of Jan-Maree Fraser and father-in-law of Traci Robins. Cherished Grandad of Lex, Blake, Kirby, Carter and Harper. Friend/NZ-in-law to Mike Robins (and Carmel, dec). Family to Kay Davis. Grant was strong-minded, straight-talking, kind-hearted and loved his family deeply. There's a James Dean quote: "Only the gentle are ever really strong" – Grant, had a gentle strength, the epitome of Kia Kaha ('Stand tall, be strong'). Your Australian family all remember you with love and miss you more than words could ever say. We are thinking of Linda/Mum/Granee as well as Peter, Melissa, Natalie and their families.
Kia Kaha – Grant may be gone but he is never forgotten.
