Gerard Michael:
Passed away peacefully at his home in Greymouth, on April 12, 2016, in his 87th year. Much loved and respected Priest of the Diocese of Christchurch for 63 years. Devoted priest of St Patrick's Catholic Church, Greymouth. Dearly loved son of the late Charlotte and Patrick, much loved brother and brother-in-law of Kevin (deceased) and Elsie (Timaru), loved uncle of Rosemarie, Elizabeth, and Deirdre, and loved by all his family, friends and members of former parishes.
"Requiescat in Pace"
A Requiem Mass for Mons will be celebrated at St Mary's Pro-Cathedral, 373 Manchester St, Christchurch, this day, Friday at 11.30am. The Funeral Mass for Mons will be celebrated at St Patrick's Catholic Church, High Street, Greymouth, tomorrow Saturday, at 11.00am followed by burial in the Priests section of Karoro Cemetery, Greymouth.

Good Bye Gerard, I remember when you visited my wife Barbara in Burwood Spinal unit, You brought her a pair of Rosary beads which had been Blessed by the Pope who visited Christchurch in 1986.Barby treasured them and i believe they were a turning point in her recovery. A very inspirational Priest and a very fine man. Our husband/father always said Monsignor O'Connor was the best speaker at a funeral he had ever heard. Pat used to say "if you want your funeral done well get Monsignor O'Connor". Monsignor also visited Joan ,when she was very ill in hospital, which was a great comfort and blessing to her and her family. Rest in peace Monsignor O'Connor. Mons Gerry was a wonderful man. A great parish priest. He was a faith filled role model to the students,parents and teachers alike when he was at OLV. Always enjoyed a catch up with him on my visits to Greymouth. RIP.
