Geoffrey ATHERFOLD Obituary

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Geoffrey Atherfold on Thursday, 25th July, 2024, aged 69. Tragically killed in a hit and run incident while out cycling in Bowen, QLD, Australia. Geoff was a treasured son to Laurence (deceased) and Hettie Atherfold, the cherished husband of Kim, the proud father of Rosie, the much-loved brother of Brent, Wesley, Nigel and Lloyd, brother-in-law to Marlene, Michelle and Charmaine and uncle to Madison, Bree, India and Isabel. Geoff's wicked sense of humour and love of life will be missed by everyone that was lucky enough to have had him in their life.

I enjoyed working with Geoff at Noosa. Loved his dry humour and love of life and long bike rides. Was in Emerald and Bowen a few weeks ago and thought of him. Devastating. Thinking of his family now.

I was privileged enough to be working under Geoff at Whitsunday Regional Council as an EHO at the time of his untimely passing. Words cannot express the devastation felt not only by myself, but to everyone at Council who was lucky enough to work alongside Geoff. As a team of only 3 EHOs, Geoff, myself and Danni became not only close work colleagues, but close friends as well. Geoff was a work father to both myself and Danni. Words simply cannot do justice to the man Geoff was.

He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word with a wicked sense of humour. I will miss him deeply and extend my sympathies to Kim, Rosie, his Mum Hettie and his brothers and their families. I am a better person for having known Geoff.

To the Atherfold Family-this is a shock and my thoughts are with you all.We had lost touch with Geoff since he had moved to Australia so so sad to read this today.
We did catch up a few years ago and with our USA friend Graeme Yorke at our home in Hamilton.
69 and still riding a bike, must have been going ok.
RIP Geoff.
