On behalf of my mum who is now 74 years old, I'd like to pass her gratitude and love to Wilma, and the siblings; Sandra, Mark, Karl and Brad. My mum was a close friend to the Shimanski family while their late father Don was manager at the Rakanda Plantation in the Duke of York islands of East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. Not only a close friend but also monitor teacher to Sandie and Mark. My mum's name is Josephine Laulau Dikil. Our belated condolences and best wishes to Wilma, Sandie, Mark, Karl, Brad and the bubus. We really apologise for receiving the late notice of your father's passing. We hope and pray that you will continue to grow strength to strength each day even without him. May his soul rest in eternal peace. God bless you all in that far end side of the world. MUCH LOVE.

Don was very good to me as a teenager growing up and I did some work for him. He was one of the 'good guys'. I am sorry to hear of his passing.

Rob and Christina, and all the Powell-Reymer family send their sincere condolences. With so much of life shared over the last almost 40 years, in PNG and back in NZ, you are family to us, a friendship and connection that continues into the next generation between our children, and with our shared interest in Malolo at Opito Bay. Don has always been a tower of strength both physically and spiritually, a gentle giant whose love will continue to inspire and sustain us all. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Grew up with this guy's. We were at St Pat's together and also played schoolboy rugby together. Also known to have had a few scraps along the way (think we were about even on that score) but he had a good memory when he was at my dad's funeral in 1998
