Don let me, a distant relation, stay at his house when I first came to Hamilton. Later I appreciated his company and loan of books. He was a friend for me the three years I was in Hamilton. Rest in peace Don!

So many memories of Don coming to concerts at Hillcrest High School or selecting Christmas books for the family in Poppies. A very fine man both personally and professionally.
Condolences from all the staff at Hillcrest High School.

My condolences to all the Allen family on the passing of Don. He was a true gentleman and was always courteous which was appreciated by us house surgeons of the late 1960's. He was a skilled surgeon and a good teacher. he gave a lot to Waikato Hospital over his long and hard working career. He was an example to all who knew him.

Leigh and I were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your father, Donald. Given our age difference, I always looked up to him-not only for his remarkable achievements in medicine, but more importantly for the family values that he and your late mother Gwenda so clearly lived by and passed on to you all. During my own early years in medicine, while working as a house surgeon at Waikato Hospital in 1980 and 1981, I had the privilege of learning from Donald during my A&E and Orthopaedic runs. He was a patient and generous teacher, and I have always remembered his kindness and guidance with great gratitude.

He will be remembered not only as a highly regarded orthopaedic surgeon, but also as a man of integrity, warmth, and devotion to his family.

Leigh and I send our heartfelt sympathy to you all at this sad time.

With warm regards,
Murray and Leigh

I first knew Mr Allen when I was young and he operated on my foot. In later years he worked in the orthopedic department next door radiology where I worked at reception. He was always so friendly and gentlemanly. I was very fond of him. Condolences to the whole family on his passing.

Our love & condolences to Kendell & Richard. All those years we spent on the sideline at Hockey with Don & Gwenda, watching Kendell & Kate, remain a special memory. Such a wonderful couple, unconditionally loving parents & grandparents.
