I'm very saddened and shocked to hear that a great person in my life (he was my Masters thesis supervisor and Labour Studies lecturer for many other papers at Waikato Uni) has passed. I always kept in contact with David after that, just enquiring as to what he was up to and vice versa in our day to day lives. Will miss his intellectual analysis and warm heartedness for ever.

I am sad to hear about Davids death. I took his classes some years ago at Waikato University and he supervised my Masters thesis. We kept in touch on and off in the years since. I always enjoyed our discussions and the learning and thinking he introduced me to. Sorry that he has passed

I remember Dave from my school and tennis days. He was a very kind outgoing man and we had some great times. His kind and gentle nature made all his very friends and those around him happy. He was a very good tennis player and always a good sport with a great sense of humour.Dave and his family were so kind to me over my school days when I was a boarder at Boys High School just across the river at Daresbury Lane and I was often at their place playing tennis or socialising. There were many great parties there which were always very popular. It saddens me we lost contact with you. Rest In Peace Dave and we will meet again some day

I am so very sad to learn this news. I had never met David but had sent and received many emails to and from David in regards to a book chapter that he wrote for our edited book on wellbeing, published yesterday (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-18329-4). David was a bright mind, clear thinker and he wrote with flair. RIP David, I will miss your intellect greatly.

David was one of my most supportive and greatest friends. His loss cuts deep, but I am trying to hold onto how lucky I was to have known him and had him as my friend. David was my PhD supervisor, and for that I was immensely privileged. I will miss our lunches and chats. As many others have said, David had an immense intellect coupled with a beautiful and gentle soul. He advocated for so many people. I last saw David just a couple of months ago when we had one of our frequent catch - ups. It is an enduring and precious memory for me now. My condolences to Melissa and his family.

David was always very supportive of our ukulele singing group The Strumbles, putting up with our weekly practices and faithfully attending performances over the years. We had many a great party on their back deck. He was a genuine warm person always interested in what we were doing. I last saw David at a recent special gig, our champion, there with a smile clapping from the sideline. He will be sadly missed. Arohanui

A beautiful man indeed. David was a gentle and exceptional person and we appreciated the years of friendship, conversation and neighbourhood fun we had with him and the family. A huge loss, too soon and too sad.

Dear Melissa- We were so sorry to hear of David´s illness and sudden death. We saw David quite recently when he came to dinner with us when Shaista and Peter visited us in Hamilton. It was lovely to spend this time with him and it will be our lasting memory of his intellect and friendship. I hope you and the kids are recovering from COVID.
