Marian Wexler Obituary

Marian Fox Wexler
Marian Fox Wexler was born in New Haven, Connecticut on December 26, 1929. She lived with her family on Goffe Terrace and attended Roger Sherman Elementary School, Susan Sheridan Middle School, and Hillhouse High School. In her senior year at Hillhouse, Marian met Robert (Bob) Wexler, who was then a freshman at Yale. Marian followed in her father's and sister's footsteps and attended Cornell University, graduating in 1951. Later that year, she married Bob Wexler. They first lived in Washington, D.C., where Marian worked as a school teacher. Marian and Bob soon moved to Leominster, Massachusetts where she raised two children (Andrew and Susan), became an active participant in the local Jewish community, and founded a kindergarten at Agudat Achim synagogue. After her marriage of 23 years ended in divorce, Marian began a new chapter of her life as an independent woman with adult children. She moved to Newton, Massachusetts and took administrative jobs at both Tufts University and Boston University Law School. Marian subsequently returned to New Haven, where she worked as a docent at the Yale Art Gallery for decades and reconnected with friends and family. In 1998, she was introduced to Dr. Irwin Braverman; they were to remain happily partnered for the rest of Marian's life. In 2017, she and Dr. Braverman became residents of the Whitney Center in Hamden, Connecticut. Marian appreciated the community there very much.
Marian is predeceased by her parents Rose (Greenberg) Fox and John Jacob Fox, sister Laurel Fox Vlock and brothers-in-law Jim Vlock and Jerrold Wexler.
Marian is survived by Dr. Irwin Braverman, son Andrew Wexler and daughter-in-law Geri (Segalman) Wexler, daughter Susan Wexler and son-in-law Hans Engler; grandchildren Rebecca Wexler (Dan Cote), Sarah Wexler (Shane Hersh), Rachel Engler (Dustin Condren), and Simon Engler (Victoria Uren); great-grandchildren Ben and Sophie Cote, Francesca Hersh, Theodore and Roswitha Engler; and nieces and nephews Dan Vlock, Sandra Vlock, Bill Wexler, Laurie Stolowitz, and Debra Dombrowski.
A private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at B'nai Jacob Memorial Park. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on the evening of September 10 from 4 – 5:30 p.m. and again from 7 – 8 p.m. for a Shiva Minyan in the 6th Floor Common Room of the North Building of the Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden, CT.
